Cornerstone
Presbyterian
Church
baptizes
both infants
and adults
“in the name
of the
Father, and
the Son, and
the Holy
Spirit,” one
of the most
ancient and
universally
used
formulas in
the
Christian
Church.
Presbyterians
believe that
baptism with
water,
practiced
only once in
a lifetime,
is the sign
we were
given by God
to symbolize
the
cleansing of
sin and
adoption
into the
family of
the church,
unifying the
people as a
community of
faith. The
water of
baptism
reminds us
of the
waters of
creation,
the Flood,
the Exodus
from Egypt,
and of God’s
promises to
previous
generations.
At a
baptism, the
congregation
of
Cornerstone
is
commissioned
to share in
the newly
baptized
persons’
belonging
and
membership,
promising to
guide, teach
and nurture
them as the
learn and
grow in
their own
faith.
In the
Baptism of
infants, we
confess our
confidence
in God’s
gracious
initiative,
that a baby
who cannot
turn to God
is
nonetheless
claimed as a
member of
the covenant
community, a
child of
God,
cleansed by
grace and
sealed by
the Spirit;
in the
Baptism of
adults, we
confess our
confidence
that God’s
grace can
make us new
creations at
any stage of
our lives.
Baptism is a
sign and
seal of the
covenant of
grace, a
mark of
entrance
into the
visible
church, and
it is the
Holy Spirit
who makes
this
sacrament
efficacious
in God's
time to
those whom
God has
called. In
the Lord’s
Supper, we
confess that
as we eat
the bread
and share
one cup the
Spirit
unites us to
the ascended
Christ, so
that His
resurrection
life may
nourish,
strengthen,
and
transform
us. Third,
the
community of
the Church
practices
discipline
in order to
help one
another
along the
path to new
life,
speaking the
truth in
love to one
another,
bearing one
another’s
burdens, and
offering to
one another
the grace of
Christ.
Through
baptism an
individual
(infant,
child, youth
or adult) is
joined to
the Church
universal,
the body of
Christ. The
sacrament of
baptism
shall be
approved for
an
individual,
by a
session, one
time and all
Christian
baptisms
will be
recognized
by ECO
congregations.
Through
covenant
partnership
an
individual
is joined to
the local
congregation,
and is able
to be fully
involved in
its mission
to the local
community
and the
world.

Love is the
richest and
greatest
gift that
God gave to
the world
sending his
son Jesus
Christ to
come among
us, to be
born of a
human
mother, and
to make the
way of the
cross to be
the way of
life. Love
between a
man and
woman which
matures into
marriage is
one of God’s
most
beautiful
types of
love. At
Cornerstone
Presbyterian
Church, we
celebrate
that love
through the
Christian
wedding
ceremony
consecrating
the union of
man and
woman in
God’s name.
The
Presbyterian
Christian
wedding
ceremony
guides
couples
toward a
deeper
Christian
understanding
of marriage.
Wedding
ceremony
guests
become
participants
in a service
of worship
that affirms
marriage as
God’s gift
to humanity
and invites
those
present to
“rejoice
that
marriage is
given by
God, blessed
by our Lord
Jesus
Christ, and
sustained by
the Holy
Spirit.”
Couples
pursuing a
Christian
wedding seek
to bring
their
marriages
into accord
with the
will of God
and to allow
their
relationship
with Christ
to form the
pattern for
the covenant
of marriage.
Moreover,
they assume
that the
promises of
marriage are
to be made
in response
to the Word
of God, in
the context
of prayer,
and in the
presence of
the
community of
faith.
Couples
considering
entering
into a
long-term
union (such
as marriage)
will benefit
from
exploring
their
relationship
issues (or
potential
issues)
before
making the
commitment.
Premarital
counseling
is a
wonderful
opportunity
to assess
the dynamics
of your
relationship
and prepare
yourselves
for a
satisfying
future.
Premarital
counseling
is very much
an
educational
experience.
You'll learn
and hone
your
communication
skills and
conflict
resolution
in a way
that will
strengthen
your
relationship,
not hinder
it.
Premarital
counseling
will be
different
for each
couple. A
pastor will
discuss with
you
beforehand
your
relationship
and any
concerns
and/or
discussions
that you
would like
to go over
during the
course of
the
counseling
sessions.
In general,
you can
expect that
during the
course of
the session,
you will
discuss with
your spouse
and the
pastor
everything
from
finances,
intimacy,
crisis
management
(marriage
crisis and
others), and
family, just
to name a
few. Each
session
usually
lasts about
an hour and
the pastor
may or may
not wish to
speak to
each of you
separately,
too. You
should plan
on meeting
with a
pastor at
least four
different
times.
Finally, in
order to
have a
pastor from
Cornerstone
Presbyterian
Church
officiate
your
wedding,
premarital
counseling
is required.
If you are
interested
in being
married by
one of
Cornerstone's
pastors and
to set up an
appointment,
please
email or
call the
church
office at

“None of us
lives to
himself, and
none of us
dies to
himself. If
we live, we
live to the
Lord, and if
we die, we
die to the
Lord; so
then,
whether we
live or
whether we
die, we are
the Lord’s.”
Romans
14:7-8.
Christians
do not bear
bereavement
in isolation
but are
sustained by
the
community of
faith.
Therefore,
Cornerstone
Presbyterian
Church
invites
persons to
use the
church for
Christian
funeral
services.
Funeral
services
shall be
directed by
Cornerstone’s
pastor and
others may
participate
as leaders
in the
service.
Christian
funeral
services may
include
scripture
readings,
worship
songs,
prayer, a
pastoral
message, an
affirmation
of faith and
sharing of a
eulogy, and
witnessing
the ways in
which the
deceased
acted out
their faith
in God. The
Christian
funeral
service is
concluded by
commending
the one who
has died to
the care of
the eternal
God.
Followers of
Jesus
recognize
the
inevitability
of death,
and the
Gospel of
Jesus
powerfully
addresses
the reality
and
experience
of death.
Jesus-followers
affirm with
confidence
Christ's
victory over
death and
the grave
and we
proclaim
that death
cannot
separate
human beings
from the
love of God,
which is in
Christ
Jesus. Such
is the faith
by which
Christians
live and in
which
Christians
die.
I am the
resurrection
and the
life. He who
believes in
me will
live, even
though he
dies, and
whoever
lives and
believes in
me will
never die.
-Jesus (John
11:25-26)
Funeral
Services
will be held
for members
of the
church and
their
immediate
families
(spouse and
children).
Funeral
Services for
non-members
will be at
the
discretion
of the
Church
Leadership
and
policies.
Video live
streaming is
available
for all
funerals
upon
request.
Cornerstone
welcomes
your
interest in
planning
funeral
service at
the church.
